7,500 PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN THE 4TH EDITION OF MENDIEXPO

The public returned once again to support the mountaineering, ski, adventure and travel fair, Mendiexpo. It combines exhibitions and an emphasis on information and training into one event, with plenty of opportunity for leisure activities.

This year 7,500 mountaineering and mountain sports devotees made it to Ficoba. This reflects an increase of 11% in the number of attendees as compared with the last event, and demonstrates that in its fours years it has truly established itself, receiving a total of 34,000 visitors.

The positive data regarding attendance was also reflected in the participation in the different activities. More than 3,000 people took part in some of the more than twenty programmed activities at Mendiexpo. Among the most popular were films for children and young people, as well as films highlighting mountaineers and climbers like the Italian Simone Moro and the rock climbing world champion, Patxi Usobiaga; the film with Olympic snowboarder, Iker Frenández; and the new synthetic ice rink installed in one of the Ficoba pavilions.

The high level of participation attracted by Mendiexpo was well rated by the exhibitors, as was the profile of the people attending which was primarily of real mountaineering and mountain sporting enthusiasts. Exhibitors said that the attending public was well informed, and had high expectations of the offerings presented.

Along these lines, we should point out that Mendiexpo attracted names like the Pou brothers, well-known in the mountaineering world since their participation in the second edition of Mendiexpo, and the Guipuzcoan rock climber, Josune Berciartu.

Mendiexpo 2007 had more than 20 exhibitors representing various sectors, spread over an area of 1,000 square meters, more than any of the previous editions of Mendiexpo. For the first time, Mendiexpo included the presentation of offerings like trips and adventure sports with the goal of addressing the interest of the many mountaineering enthusiasts who are consumers of these products.
